BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – With only a couple of days to go, the 2024 ‘Dancing for the Space Coast’ dancers are finalizing their final dance routines with their dance instructors for the charity event on June 1 at Florida Tech’s Clemente Center.

With an anticipated sold out crowd ready to pack inside the Clemente Center this year, one of the dancers in this year’s event is Terri Clark.

With more than 40 years of experience as an educator, my passion is working with special needs children.

Born and raised in Melbourne, I attended Harbor City Elementary, Central Junior High, Eau Gallie High School, and Brevard Community College. My roots run deep in our community. After graduating with my Master’s in Special Education from the University of Florida, I returned to Melbourne to start my teaching career.

I have been married to David for 41 years and have two sons, two lovely daughters-in-law, one grandson, and another grandson on the way. Brevard County has been fantastic for my family and me. This fundraiser means so much to me. Not only does it support the school that I love, but it also supports our amazing Sheriff’s Department. My father retired from the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department in 1985 as a Captain, starting with the Eau Gallie police department in 1956.

Space Coast Discovery is an amazing school experiencing phenomenal growth. Serving as its Executive Director is a privilege as I watch these kids inspire hope for their bright future. Inclusive programs enable children to excel academically, develop friendships, become leaders and role models, learn acceptance, and appreciate diversity. Imagine a school curriculum centered on a child’s needs.

Too often, we focus on making all kids fit into round holes, but imagine a school where the board is comprised of not just round holes but every shape and size, ready to embrace the varied educational needs of each student. The goal of this new endeavor—this dream—is to truly consider each child, whether gifted or challenged or typically developing, as an individual learner and prescribe an educational program to meet their unique needs.

Throughout my life, I have wanted to change the lives of children and make my community a better place for all. With the community’s help, Space Cost Discovery can become the start of educational transformation in Brevard County. With your support, you can change our children’s future to a future full of love and hope!

“Our life is but a series of defining moments, strung together by passing time. Surrender fully to this moment because it is not the moment itself that defines us, but how we choose to live in it.”

Known as the largest fundraising event in Brevard County, Dancing for the Space Coast is a unique competition and fundraiser that benefits worthy non-profit organizations on the Space Coast.

Last year’s event raised more than $400,000 for Habitat for Humanity of Brevard, Women’s Center of Brevard, Family Promise of Brevard and the United States Law Enforcement Eternal Flame.

This year, Dancing for the Space Coast will raise money to benefit the Aging Matters, Spacecoast Discovery, Space Coast Basket Brigade/Best Buddiesand The Brevard County Public Safety Charity, which was established to assist Brevard County law enforcement officers and firefighters in their time of need.

“As Sheriff of Brevard County, it gives me great pleasure for our agency to host Dancing for the Space Coast,” said Sheriff Wayne Ivey.

“Dancing for the Space Coast is an exciting event that teams up local celebrities with dance professionals, in a competition to benefit Brevard County nonprofit organizations. Each competitor dedicates their time and talents taking dance lessons and also diligently raises money as part of the competition.

Bragging Rights On the Line

Each celebrity dancer will be matched up with a professional dancer as they compete in a ballroom dance – and for bragging rights as the best dancer in Brevard.

On the evening of the competition, each dance pair will compete in a choreographed ballroom dance that will be scored by a panel of judges. During the show, couples will earn scores based on several technical skill factors, but the judges’ scores alone don’t decide the dancer’s final score.

Leading up to the actual performance, the dancers will have already scored 60 percent of their points through their fundraising endeavors to benefit needy charities.
