BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Are you concerned about local issues and feel compelled to do more? Then consider taking part in our EmpowerU course! This 6-week course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to impact change in their community.

The EmpowerU program is for concerned individuals or groups interested in local issues that want to grow their skills to engage decision-makers about problems they are worried about meaningfully.

As you work through 8 hours of self-paced online learning activities and live workshops, participants will:

■ Gain an understanding of the roles and levels of government and who to contact.

■ Learn to use persuasion, framing, questioning, and listening skills in decision-making.

■ Know where to find reputable information on local issues.

■ Create an engagement plan and experience practicing it in a safe, peer-learning environment.

■ Build your confidence to see yourself as a resource to decision-makers.

View engagement with decision-makers as a norm and encourage others to do it. Network with other passionate people who share your concerns for Brevard County.

This EmpowerU course will run from September 9 – October 16, and the cost is $95 per person.

This is a hybrid course with five live workshop sessions that are taught via Zoom and in-person. Registration will close on August 31, or when all spots are filled.

In-person workshops will be held at the UF/IFAS Extension office in Cocoa on 3695 Lake Drive.
