BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball program will open the regular season Friday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans will host Florida Coastal Prep at 5 p.m. and will be the debut of new head coach Thomas Gray who took over for head coach Jeremy Shulman.

“Really excited to carry on the tradition and history that coach Shulman and this program have had in the past, I think we have the players and staff that can go and do something special this year,” Gray said. “Excited to start this journey officially and see where it takes us.”

The journey begins Friday as four returning players from last year’s team that won 27 games will lead a group of talented new players into the new season.

“We are really excited about the growth that we have had in the preseason, I have seen things that we needed to work on in the first weekend of scrimmages and guys came in with a heightened awareness and approach at practice and I was really pleased with this last scrimmage that we had,” Gray said.

“This is a group that is going to continue to grow not only in the preseason but during the season. The great thing is that they are willing to learn, willing to improve and accept coaching so I could not be more excited about this group.”

Following Friday’s game, the Titans will hit the road to play in the CSI Battle for the Boot tournament in southern Idaho. They will be back at Titan Field House for three straight games beginning Nov. 12 against North Florida Prep.

And the new head coach is excited to see how his team comes together and plays with effort and purpose, he knows good things will come.

“We talk about doing your job, we have enough pieces on this team that nobody has to hit home runs. Can we be the team that makes the simple play. We just have to do our job, it’s that simple,” Gray said.

“If we have a group of guys that are willing to play with the effort that we require every day in practice, the focus and attention to detail to just do their jobs to the best of their abilities, I think we will walk away any game pleased.”

Admission to Friday’s home opener at Titan Field House on the Melbourne campus is free of charge and the game will be shown live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
