Men’s soccer team hosts Miami Dade for Southeast District title tonight

It will be a Region 8 Championship rematch tonight as the Eastern Florida State College men’s soccer team will play Miami Dade College in the Southeast District Championship game.

The Titan men are coming off a 7-1 victory against Southern Union in the semifinals on Friday. Stephen Gilbert recorded a hat trick, and Adrian Adrian scored two goals. Eastern Florida State College got off to a fast start, jumping out to a 3-1 lead in the first 15 minutes of the match.

The Titans have a five-game win streak heading into the district final and are looking to even the season series with the Sharks. Miami Dade won the first two meetings, but the Titans picked up the 4-2 win last week in the Region 8 Championship.

Miami Dade won a highly-contested game with USC Sumter 3-1, scoring twice in the final 11 minutes to put the game away and advance to the district final.

Both teams come into the matchup 13-2-2 on the season and are both ranked in the top 10 in the nation, with the Titans ranked seventh and the Sharks eighth. In the first three games, 13 goals have been scored, with the Sharks having seven and the Titans having six.

The winner of tonight’s game will get an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Orlando Health Stadium, and admission is $5. EFSC students are free when they show their school ID. You can purchase tickets ahead of tonight’s game here.

Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer team will face Daytona State College

It will be a rematch of the Region 8 Final and the fourth meeting between the two teams this season. The Titans have won two of the three meetings, but the Falcons won the Region 8 Championship last week.

Eastern Florida State College reached the final with a strong defensive effort, and Aimee Longhurst found the back of the net with 13 minutes remaining to pick up the 1-0 victory against USC Lancaster.

The Titans are now 9-6 on the season and are ranked 16th in the nation heading into the final. Last year the Titans defeated USC Lancaster in the district final to reach the national tournament and went to the national championship game, falling in overtime.

Daytona State College defeated Southern Union 2-0 in the semifinal as Sophia Varga and Shaneil Buckley scored goals for the Falcons.

Daytona State College is 14-3 now and has won 10 games in a row, the last loss coming to the Titans on Sept. 20. They are ranked ninth in the NJCAA Division I poll and are looking for their first berth into the national tournament tonight.

The winner of tonight’s game will receive an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament. Game time is 5 p.m. at Orlando Health Stadium, and admission is $5. EFSC students who show their school ID are free.
