Eastern Florida State Men Hoops Defeat St. Petersburg College 82-70 in Citrus Conference Home Opener

24th-ranked Titans improved to 2-0 in the conference

The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team defeated St. Petersburg College in their Citrus Conference home opener on Wednesday night.

BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA —The Eastern Florida State College men’s basketball team defeated St. Petersburg College in their Citrus Conference home opener.

The 24th-ranked Titans improved to 2-0 in the conference with an 82-70 victory over St. Petersburg College at Titan Field House.

Eastern Florida State College trailed 6-4 in the first four minutes but would outscore St. Petersburg 20-0 over the next nine minutes and would go into the locker room with a 39-18 lead.

But St. Petersburg College came out in the second half and hit some big shots cutting the lead to 11 halfway through the second half.

It would get down to a five-point lead but with five minutes left Yoav Botzer hit a big shot and then Felipe Patino hit a 3-pointer followed by a Fredy-Salam Sylla 3-pointer and had another basket before Patino hit another 3-pointer as the Titans lead went from five to 17 with four minutes remaining.

Emondrek Erkins-Ford once again led the offensive attack, scoring 23 points and grabbing six rebounds. It marks the second straight 20-plus point performance for Erkins-Ford.

Sylla finished with 21 points and eight rebounds while Patino had 15 in the win.

Eastern Florida State College will be back at Titan Field House on Saturday afternoon against Santa Fe College in a conference game beginning at 4 p.m. It will be Alumni Game Day at Eastern Florida State College with giveaways, halftime shooting competition and more.
