National Stop on Red Week Set Aug. 8, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — In recognition of National Stop on Red Week, held from August 3 to 9, the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization will join forces with the West Melbourne Police Department and a coalition of regional and statewide safety partners to promote traffic awareness and pedestrian safety at one of Brevard’s busiest intersections.
On Friday, August 8, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., community leaders, traffic safety advocates, and volunteers will gather at the intersection of Evans Road and Hollywood Boulevard, located at US 192 in West Melbourne. The goal is to remind drivers of a simple yet crucial message: “Always Stop on Red.”
The high-visibility event will feature sign-waving volunteers, uniformed law enforcement officers, and interactive outreach from key agencies just days before students across Brevard return to school.
The timing is intentional, aiming to reinforce life-saving driver behavior during a season of heightened road activity.
Prominent speakers will include Melissa Wandall of the National Coalition for Safer Roads, Georganna Gillette of the Space Coast Transportation Planning Organization, Chief Greg Vesta of the West Melbourne Police Department, Mayor Andrea Young of West Melbourne, and representatives from the Florida Department of Transportation.
With colorful signage, a high-traffic backdrop, and a lineup of engaged speakers and volunteers, the campaign offers striking visuals and compelling content for media covering back-to-school safety and roadway awareness initiatives.

Confirmed community partners attending include:
● City of West Melbourne staff and council members
● Florida Department of Transportation (District 5 and Brevard Operations)
● Florida Highway Patrol Troop D
● Health First
● Space Coast Area Transit
● National Coalition for Safer Roads
● West Melbourne Police Department
