BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA — Morning commuters along State Road 520 were stunned Tuesday when a man was spotted clinging to the hood of a moving car, an ordeal that ended in a violent crash and left him critically injured.
According to the Cocoa Police Department, the incident began as a domestic dispute in the parking lot of the Wawa convenience store.
Witnesses say the confrontation escalated when the female driver, identified as Dugblis Rojas Jimenez, sped away with the man still holding onto the vehicle.
As Jimenez drove down State Road 520 near Fiske Boulevard, police said she struck two uninvolved vehicles before crashing into a roadside sign.
The man was thrown from the hood and run over in the process. He was later airlifted to a hospital with severe head injuries and remains in critical condition.
Jimenez was also transported to a hospital and is now facing a series of felony charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, domestic violence, reckless driving, and leaving the scene of a crash.

Eyewitnesses described the chaotic scene as terrifying.
“This is one of the busiest roads between Cocoa and Merritt Island. Seeing that happen in rush hour was really scary,” said Stephanie Blake, who had just dropped her children off at school.
“I just heard screeching and then saw the car spinning out of control,” recalled another witness, Michelle Laroe.
Cocoa police spokesperson Yvonne Martinez confirmed that both individuals were hospitalized, with the man’s condition listed as critical.
Authorities closed several lanes of State Road 520 during the morning investigation, backing up traffic for hours. Police say the case remains under investigation as they continue reviewing witness statements and video evidence.
