West Melbourne Police has 52 sworn officers and 10 professional staff members

BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — The West Melbourne Police Department recently recognized two of its finest for their exemplary service and dedication to the community.
Detective Donovan Brickhouse was named Officer of the First Quarter, while Officer William O’Connell earned the title of Officer of the Second Quarter.
Both honorees were celebrated during the Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce Luncheon, where their professionalism, commitment, and contributions to public safety were commended.
The recognition highlights the department’s appreciation for the officers’ positive impact on the community and their unwavering dedication to duty.

The West Melbourne Police Department traces its roots back to 1959, shortly after the City was created.
Today, the Department has 52 sworn officers and 10 professional staff members. Together, we are responsible for the protection and safety of West Melbourne’s 29,739 residents, as well as the many visitors that come and go through the city every day.

The West Melbourne Police Department is accredited through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation.
To be accredited, they had to come into compliance with over 260 Commission-approved standards, mainly relating to life, health, and safety. The Department officially obtained accreditation status on June 22, 2016, and was re-accredited in February 2020 and February 2023. The award is in effect for three years.
