The Palm Bay Police Department responded to a residence on Thursday, August 22, after receiving a report of concerning statements made in connection with Southwest Middle School. Following the investigation, officers determined the threat was credible.

BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — The Palm Bay Police Department released an update on Thursday, August 22 after responding to a residence , regarding receipt of a report of concerning statements made in connection with Southwest Middle School. Following the investigation, officers determined the threat was credible.

Earlier in the evening, police had received a tip through the Fortify Florida reporting system regarding a student who made violent threats toward the school.

According to PBPD, officers quickly responded to the student’s residence and initiated an investigation. The student has since been suspended from Southwest Middle School while the legal process continued.

Authorities discovered that the juvenile suspect had created a list targeting other students with potential harm. According to police, the suspect will be charged with Written Threats to do Harm.

Police officials emphasized that the safety and well-being of students and the community remain their highest priority. They credited a courageous individual for coming forward with the information that allowed investigators to pursue the case and file charges.

As a precaution, Palm Bay Police will maintain an increased presence at Southwest Middle School. The department reiterated its commitment to treating all threats with utmost seriousness and ensuring schools remain a safe environment for students and staff.
