BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — The Palm Bay Police Department has announced the promotion of Virginia Kilmer to the rank of commander, recognizing her years of service, leadership, and extensive law enforcement experience within the agency.
As commander, Kilmer will oversee the department’s Support Services Division.
The division encompasses several critical functions, including Victim Services, Records, Communications, Logistics, the Volunteers in Citizen Observation Patrol (VCOP) Program, School Crossing Guards, and the Community Resource Unit.
Kilmer joined the department in 2010 after serving in the United States Air Force, beginning a law enforcement career that has spanned a variety of assignments and leadership roles.
During her tenure with the department, Kilmer has served as a road patrol officer, a detective in the Major Case Unit, and a task force officer assigned to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Joint Terrorism Task Force.
Her experience investigating complex criminal cases and working alongside federal agencies helped establish a foundation for her advancement through the ranks.
In 2019, Kilmer was promoted to sergeant, where she supervised officers on patrol and later served in the department’s Training and Recruiting Unit.
Her responsibilities included helping develop new officers and supporting recruitment efforts for the growing agency.
In 2021, Virginia Kilmer was promoted to lieutenant. In that role, Kilmer served in several key assignments, including the Uniform Services Division and the Community Services Division. She also served as the department’s Public Information Officer, serving as a liaison between law enforcement and the community. Kilmer joined the department in 2010 after serving in the United States Air Force, beginning a law enforcement career that has spanned a variety of assignments and leadership roles.
Two years later, in 2021, she was promoted to lieutenant. In that role, Kilmer served in several key assignments, including the Uniform Services Division and the Community Services Division.
She also served as the department’s Public Information Officer, serving as a liaison between law enforcement and the community.
In addition to her professional experience, Kilmer holds a Master of Arts degree in Intelligence and Terrorism Studies from the American Military University.
She is also a recipient of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (FBI-LEEDA) Trilogy Series award, a nationally recognized leadership development program for law enforcement professionals.
The Palm Bay Police Department congratulated Kilmer on her promotion and expressed confidence in her continued leadership as she takes on her new responsibilities within the agency.
