BREVARD COUNTY • CAPE CANAVERAL, FLORIDA — The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) will host a public workshop in Cape Canaveral on Thursday, October 9, to gather feedback on management of the state’s recreational Atlantic red snapper fishery.

The in-person event will take place at the Radisson Resort at the Port, located at 8701 Astronaut Blvd., Cape Canaveral, FL 32920, and is part of a broader series of workshops being held across Florida, both in person and online, to engage the public in shaping future red snapper regulations.

According to FWC officials, the meetings are designed to collect input from anglers, charter operators, and other stakeholders on issues such as season length, catch limits, and data collection methods aimed at sustaining the Atlantic red snapper population while maintaining fishing opportunities.

Those unable to attend the Cape Canaveral workshop can still share their views by submitting feedback through the FWC Saltwater Public Comments webpage or by emailing Marine@MyFWC.com.

FWC encourages anyone with an interest in Florida’s red snapper fishery to participate in the discussion.

“Public input plays an important role in how we manage fisheries,” the agency said in a statement announcing the series of meetings.

The FWC’s red snapper workshops follow years of discussion among state and federal fisheries managers about the limited fishing seasons in Atlantic waters, as the species remains under tight catch restrictions due to federal stock assessments.

Public input from these meetings will help guide the state’s recommendations to federal partners and inform future management decisions.

Additional information, including details about other upcoming workshops and virtual participation options, can be found on the FWC’s Atlantic Recreational Red Snapper Workshop page at HERE, or by contacting the agency at Marine@MyFWC.com or 850-487-0554.
