A water rescue at Lori Wilson Park on Saturday afternoon left one juvenile dead and another hospitalized, according to a Cocoa Beach Police Detective Sergeant Taylor Payne.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA — A water rescue at Lori Wilson Park on Saturday afternoon left one juvenile dead and another hospitalized, according to a Cocoa Beach Police Detective Sergeant Taylor Payne.

Rescue crews from the Cocoa Beach Police Department, Cocoa Beach Fire Department, and Brevard County Ocean Rescue responded at approximately 1:55 p.m. on May 2, 2026, after reports of two juveniles—ages 12 and 17—in distress in the ocean.

Lifeguards with Brevard County Ocean Rescue were able to safely bring the 12-year-old to shore.

An extensive search followed for the second victim, a 17-year-old, who was later located submerged and unresponsive in the surf.

Lifeguards, assisted by Cocoa Beach Fire Department personnel, removed the teen from the water.

Both juveniles received emergency medical treatment at the scene before being transported to a Brevard hospital.

The 17-year-old was later pronounced deceased.

The condition of the 12-year-old has not been released.

Officials said the incident remains under active investigation, and no additional details have been made available.
