Overtime Heroics Send Cocoa to Region 2-2A Championship

CLEARWATER, FLORIDA — In a dramatic postseason showdown that swung wildly in momentum, the Cocoa Tigers edged Calvary Christian 34-33 in overtime Friday night, securing a spot in the Region 2-2A championship game.
With the win, Cocoa advances to face Bradford (11-1) on the road in Starke on Friday, Nov. 28, in the Region 2-2A final — a matchup that will determine who moves on to the state semifinals.
Cocoa (7-4) appeared in full command early, erupting for 24 first-half points while holding the Warriors to just six. The Tigers’ fast start sent them into halftime with a comfortable 24-6 lead and the confidence of a team poised to advance.
But Calvary Christian refused to fold.
The Warriors mounted a fierce second-half rally, putting up 21 unanswered points while tightening defensively to slow the Tigers’ offense.
Cocoa managed only a fourth-quarter field goal, and as regulation expired, the game was knotted at 27-27 — a stunning turnaround after the Tigers’ dominant opening.
Calvary Christian struck first in overtime, punching in a touchdown to take a 33-27 lead. But a missed extra point opened a door that Cocoa quickly walked through.
On their possession, the Tigers answered with a touchdown of their own, and with the game on the line, calmly drilled the extra point to seal the one-point victory and silence the home crowd.
