WATCH: SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY – Well, today I’m standing in our Sally Port, and you know what that means: that means I’m about to walk an animal abuser into our jail. In fact, I’m gonna walk two in, Rasheed Hooks and Fannie Hooks.

Hello everyone, I’m Sheriff Wayne Ivey of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office. And you know, earlier this week, we were tearing down crap houses where drug dealers and everything were.

Well, today I’m standing in our Sally Port, and you know what that means: that means I’m about to walk an animal abuser into our jail. In fact, I’m gonna walk two in: Rasheed Hooks and Fannie Hooks.

Both of them are going to jail on one count of felony animal cruelty, one count of abandonment, one count of confinement of animals. Judge Henderson put no bonds on the warrants, the felony warrants.

Rasheed, yeah, he’s gonna take the ride also for being a habitual traffic offender, as he got in his car and tried to maneuver away from us today, but that didn’t work either.

So, Agent Helbig’s been working this case along with our animal enforcement officers. It actually started back in May when we started to receive complaints about dogs being kept in cages all day long, hardly ever being let out at any time, day or night.

Our animal enforcement officers began making attempts to try and contact the owners, the Hooks, as a matter of fact, and just couldn’t get them to come to the door or anything.

Two of our animal enforcement officers finally made contact with Rasheed Hooks, and boy, he’s a tough one because he decided to start cussing at our animal enforcement officers, chasing them back to their cars.

Thankfully, our partners from Palm Bay PD came in and restored peace there. He was showing his butt, boy, because he’s a tough guy, let me tell you.

So, he finally let our animal enforcement officers take a look at the cages where the dogs were. Our animal enforcement officers inspected the dogs and everything else. At that time, the dogs were not in harm. He wouldn’t let us in the house, though. That’s an interesting point; he wouldn’t let us go in to look at animals in the house.

So, we started getting more complaints and more complaints about the activities going on there, about the abuse of animals. On July 3rd, the O’Galley Animal Emergency Hospital called about a sick puppy, and it said it was severely ill, was in really bad shape. The puppy was brought in by Rasheed Hooks, but guess what? He didn’t tell us, the people there at the hospital, that he was Rasheed Hooks.

No, he used a different name. He made up a name and went in, basically identity theft, but went in and told them, I’m dropping this puppy off and the puppy’s sick, so the puppy was sick.

In fact, the puppy was extremely malnourished. On the health scale, it was a two out of a possible nine. The animal hospital ended up having to euthanize the dog because there was just no way to recover it, no way to help it recover. So, Agent Helbig, actually following that incident, gets a videotape showing a child who appears to be their child, striking, kicking, and yelling at the dog immediately before the dog was taken in.

So, we’re gonna walk them into our jail. You know, when Agent Helbig made contact with Fannie Hooks, he actually called her on the phone to try to talk to her about it.

Rasheed Hooks, you know, again, he’s a tough guy, boy; he’s something else. He actually gets on the phone and starts telling our agent, Nobody gives a F what you’re talking about, nobody cares, and hangs up the phone.

SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: You know, I’ve said it before, folks, we don’t put up with animal cruelty, animal abuse here in Brevard County. If you’re evil enough that you can harm an animal, you can harm a human, and so we keep our citizens and our pets safe here. So we’re going to do what we do; we’re going to walk their sorry butts into jail. (BCSO image)

Well, I bet he cares now because now he’s going to jail for a count of felony animal cruelty, count of one count of abandonment, one count of confinement of animals, and Fannie, yeah, she’s taking the ride too for one count of felony animal cruelty and one count of confinement of animals No bond; they can sit in our jail until they get to see a judge, and then we’ll hopefully, another one of our strong judges, will leave them sitting in here or give them a bond so high they can’t get out on.

You know, I’ve said it before, folks, we don’t put up with animal cruelty, animal abuse here in Brevard County. If you’re evil enough that you can harm an animal, you can harm a human, and so we keep our citizens and our pets safe here. So we’re going to do what we do; we’re going to walk their sorry butts into jail. Agent Helbig?

Ain’t no sense of being ashamed now; you were proud before.

Trying to hide your little face? That’s all right; you won’t be able to hide it when we get the booking photos. Don’t harm an animal in Brevard County.
