Michael Nedelcu Sworn In as Newest Officer of the Cocoa Police Department

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier IV administered the Police Officer’s Oath to the newest member of the Cocoa Police Department on Monday morning, officially welcoming Michael Nedelcu during a special swearing-in ceremony.

Nedelcu, 37, was born and raised in Astoria, Queens, New York. Before entering law enforcement, he spent several years owning and operating a trucking company.

Seeking a new professional challenge, Nedelcu and his wife relocated to Florida three years ago, where he began working toward a career in public service.

In 2025, Nedelcu graduated from the law enforcement academy at Daytona State College. He plans to continue his education by pursuing an associate degree in general studies and has aspirations of advancing through the ranks of the department, with the goal of becoming a police K-9 handler in the future.

Over the coming months, Nedelcu will undergo the Cocoa Police Department’s Field Training and Evaluation Program.

During this time, he will be paired with a field training officer and receive hands-on instruction in department policies, procedures, and patrol operations.

Upon successfully completing all four phases of the program, he will be assigned to a squad and begin regular patrol duties.
