BREAKING: Mathers Bridge in Merritt Island Closed to Boating Traffic Until Further Notice After Boat Collision

BREVARD COUNTY • MERRITT ISLAND, FLORIDA – Mathers Bridge has been closed to boating traffic until further notice after an unoccupied boat drifted into the bridge earlier today (Thursday, Feb. 26.)

According to Brevard County Public Works, the bridge is currently not operational to boats but is open to vehicular traffic.

Any damage to the bridge is currently being assessed.

The 700-foot low-level Mathers Bridge, first opened in 1927, connects South Tropical Trail on the southern end of Merritt Island to the western end of Banana River Drive in Indian Harbour Beach.
