Melbourne defeated Viera 9-4 on Wednesday Night

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Melbourne Bulldogs baseball team hosted the Viera Hawks on Wednesday night and came out ready to play from the start.
Coming into the matchup, both teams were on winning streaks of five games or more; Melbourne would beat Viera 9-4.
It was all about the Bulldogs on Wednesday night, and not only did the fans show up, but the gentlemen on the field did as well.
Senior Dominic Tamburrino was on the mound for Melbourne and did an excellent job through the first three innings.
Viera, coming in at 11-1, had imposed their will on nearly every team they faced, but after three innings, Melbourne led 7-0.
Junior Gabriel Gonzalez got the Bulldogs off and running early with a single in the first inning and later a double; his ability to take bases at any momentum can make it difficult for any pitcher to simply throw a pitch over the plate.
Senior Jayden Santos and Sophomore Bryce Conner had two hits as well, giving each Melbourne batter more confidence every time they stepped to the plate.
Viera would eventually get on the board at the top of the fourth after a homer from Liam Russell gave the Hawks a little bit of life. However, the Bulldogs would answer every Viera run with their own.
Melbourne would go on to win the game 9-4, defeating both their rivals (Eau Gallie and Viera) this season, and only getting better as the season goes on.
Bryce Conner and Johnny Hemel finished the game with two runs batted in, while Jayden Santos had three. The win marked the sixth victory in a row for Melbourne, officially making them one of the hottest teams in Brevard County next to the Merritt Island Mustangs.
Viera will try to get back on the winning side of things as they face Olympia, Palm Bay, and MCC over their next three games, and Melbourne will try to keep the fire going as they matchup with Vero Beach, Bayside, and Heritage before going into a very difficult stretch of games.
Both squads will surely be ready for the postseason in a month, but how far they go is the question.
