According to the Florida Division of Emergency Management, severe storms are forecast to move across the Florida Panhandle overnight on March 15 and continue across North Florida through the start of the week. The system could bring several dangerous weather conditions, including strong gusty winds, tornadoes, and medium to large hail.

Officials say residents should begin preparing now in case the storms intensify as they move through the region. Severe weather events can develop quickly, making it critical for families and businesses to review safety plans and be ready to act if warnings are issued.

Emergency management guidance stresses the importance of having a plan in place before severe weather arrives. That includes ensuring homes and businesses are prepared if a tornado impacts the area and identifying the safest place to shelter during a storm.

If a tornado warning is issued, authorities recommend staying inside an enclosed and sturdy structure and moving to an interior room away from windows. Remaining indoors until the threat has passed is considered the safest option.

Officials are also encouraging residents to make sure they have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, including notifications for tornado watches and warnings. Monitoring alerts through phones, weather radios, or trusted news sources can provide valuable time to seek shelter if conditions worsen.

The state’s emergency management agency continues to remind Floridians that staying weather aware and prepared is key as the storm system approaches. Additional preparedness information and safety guidance can be found through resources provided by the Florida Division of Emergency Management at FloridaDisaster.org.
