Space Coast Initiative: Hackathon brought to you by Groundswell Startups, brings together university students, industry professionals, founders, hackers, tinkerers, and tech enthusiasts to solve real-world challenges across a broad range of themes, from aerospace and agriculture to semiconductors and gaming.

With two tracks tailored for both hardware and software innovation, participants will be supported by expert mentors and subject matter experts from across multiple verticals to build solutions that can shape the future of the Space Coast and drive innovation across the State of Florida.

Participants will take part in two distinct tracks tailored to different skill sets and interests:

The Hackers Track will focus on software-based challenges, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and web and mobile applications such as software-as-a-service platforms.

The Tinkerers Track will blend software and hardware innovation, encouraging teams to explore projects involving Internet of Things technology, robotics, and embedded systems, including hardware-as-a-service solutions.

Teams will have the flexibility to choose a theme or core problem statement during onboarding, with the option to pitch their own ideas. Subject matter experts will be on hand throughout the process to guide participants as they refine concepts and shape their solutions.

April 10: The weekend begins with a Welcome Mixer at Iron Oak Post, 2023 Melbourne Ct. Melbourne, where participants, mentors, and community members will gather for an informal kickoff to build connections before the competition begins.

April 11: Momentum continues the following evening with a VIP Networking Mixer at The Landing Rooftop, 801 E Strawbridge Ave., 11th Floor, Melbourne. The invite-only event will bring together sponsors, judges, mentors, and special guests for an evening focused on collaboration and high-level networking.

April 12: The hackathon will culminate at Groundswell Startups, where teams will present their completed projects. The finale will feature final pitches and an awards ceremony, marking the close of an intensive weekend dedicated to creativity, problem solving, and technological advancement.

JUDGING CRITERIA

• Viability & Scalability – Can it grow in the real world?

• Technical Execution – Working prototype? Resource usage?

• Relevance to the Space Coast – Local need? Regional impact?

• Innovation – How novel is the solution?

• Team Commitment – How serious is the team about continuation?

Judging panels include local business leaders, domain specialists (SMEs), and investors with relevant technical and commercial experience.

With a blend of structured challenges, expert guidance, and community engagement, the event is expected to draw a diverse group of innovators eager to turn ideas into impact.
