BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A stranded manatee in South Melbourne Beach was safely rescued Friday morning thanks to a coordinated effort by multiple Brevard County agencies and wildlife experts.

Brevard County Fire Rescue crews from Station 65 responded to the scene after receiving reports of a beached manatee along the shoreline.

Working alongside the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, WILD Florida Rescue, and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, responders carefully lifted and transported the marine mammal to safety.

Officials said the quick response and strong teamwork helped ensure the gentle giant received immediate care.

After being removed from the beach, the manatee was taken for medical evaluation and treatment before it is expected to be released back into the ocean.
