Eau Gallie Reloaded: Commodores Eye State Title Entering 2026 Season

The Commodores head football coach Chris Sands and a few of his players speak with Zane Garcia of the Space Coast Daily team about the summer workouts and upcoming season. Last season the Commodores finished 9-4 last season as their season ended in the regional finals against Bishop Moore.

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Eau Gallie head football coach Chris Sands and several Commodore players recently spoke with Space Coast Daily’s Zane Garcia about summer workouts and preparations for the upcoming season.

The Commodores finished 9-4 last season, with their playoff run ending in the regional finals against Bishop Moore. Eau Gallie has compiled a 21-6 record over the past two seasons and remains focused on capturing the program’s first state championship.

As excited as the Commodores are for the 2026 season, Sands said the foundation for success is built during the offseason through hard work and continuity.

Last season, Eau Gallie opened its schedule at Vero Beach and made an immediate statement when freshman X’Zavier Corbin returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown.

However, the momentum quickly shifted when quarterback Joseph Allen suffered a season-ending knee injury on the team’s first offensive possession. The injury forced the Commodores to adjust their game plan for the remainder of the season.

Athlete Xavier Lherisse took over at quarterback and helped lead Eau Gallie to another successful campaign. Although the offense became more run-oriented, the Commodores continued to thrive behind the play of Lherisse, Corbin, Donovan Richardson and TJ Monroe.

Allen has returned to full health for his senior season, and Eau Gallie enters 2026 with several transfer additions and a young core that gained valuable experience last year.

Defensively, rising junior Gabriel Player has emerged as a leader and is expected to play a key role at linebacker.

Sands enters his ninth season as Eau Gallie’s head coach and has already accomplished plenty during his tenure. Still, he said the program’s ultimate goal remains winning a state championship.

Eau Gallie will host Jensen Beach in its Kickoff Classic before opening the regular season with four consecutive road games against Carrollwood Day, Heritage, Seminole and Rockledge.

The district has expanded this season, creating additional in-county matchups for the Commodores.

Head Coach Chris Sands is now going into his ninth season at Eau Gallie and has accomplished a lot, but still chasing an elusive state title which he expressed as the main goal going forward for the Commodores.
