Merritt Island Little League continues to dominate
The 10/11/12 Baseball Division Tournament continued Tuesday night with two more games at Space Coast Communities Sports Complex in Port St. John.
BREVARD COUNTY • PORT ST. JOHN, FLORIDA — The 10/11/12 Baseball Division Tournament continued Tuesday night at the Space Coast Communities Sports Complex in Port St. John, with Mims Little League and Merritt Island Little League each earning victories to advance.
Mims Little League 15, Rockledge Little League 0
On Field 1, the host Mims Little League (MLL) All-Stars rolled to a 15-0 win over Rockledge Little League (RLL).
Mims took an early 1-0 lead when Easton B scored in the bottom of the first inning before erupting for 13 runs in the second. Jace J singled home a run, while Aidyn S, Hunter Y and Easton B were each hit by pitches with the bases loaded to force in runs. Kaiden K, Maverick C, Gianni A, John E, Eli L and Melvin J all delivered RBI singles during the inning, and Jace capped the rally with another two-run single in his second plate appearance of the frame to give Mims a commanding 14-0 advantage.
MLL added one more run in the third inning to secure the 15-0 victory by mercy rule.
Trainor J earned the win on the mound for Mims, tossing three scoreless innings while allowing just one hit, striking out four and walking one.
Daniel S started for Rockledge, surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits over two innings with one strikeout and two walks.
Jace J led the Mims offense with three RBIs, while Hogan H recorded Rockledge’s lone hit.
Merritt Island Little League 4, Port St. John Little League 0
On Field 2, Merritt Island Little League (MILL) defeated host Port St. John Little League (PSJLL) by a 4-0 score.
Merritt Island broke the scoreless tie in the second inning when Callaghan S blasted a solo home run to center field.
Andrew L turned in a dominant performance for Merritt Island, pitching five scoreless innings while allowing just two hits, striking out seven and walking four.
Bryce K started for Port St. John and pitched five innings, allowing four runs, three of them earned, on seven hits while striking out three and walking one.
Callaghan S powered the Merritt Island offense, finishing 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Sammy D added two hits, while Merritt Island played a clean defensive game without committing an error.
For Port St. John, Bretin P, Colton C and Coy S each collected a hit.
