Mims and Merritt Island Little League Roll in Victories
There were two games on Thursday night at Space Coast Communities Sports Complex in the 10/11/12 Baseball Division.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The 10/11/12 Baseball Division tournament continued Thursday night at the Space Coast Communities Sports Complex with Mims Little League and Merritt Island Little League both advancing with convincing victories.
Mims Little League 12, Port St. John Little League 6
On Field 1, Mims Little League used a big second inning to pull away from host Port St. John Little League for a 12-6 victory.
Mims struck first in the opening inning when Trainor J scored on a sacrifice fly and Jace J doubled to drive in another run. Port St. John answered in the bottom half of the inning, using a pair of singles to even the score.
The game turned in the second inning as Mims erupted for six runs on two hits to build a commanding 9-3 advantage. Trainor delivered the biggest hit of the inning, blasting a three-run double to give Mims control.
Port St. John finished with eight hits compared to Mims’ six, but the visitors capitalized on timely hitting and eight walks to secure the win.
Griffin P and Coy S each recorded two hits for Port St. John, while Tripp F and Coy S each drove in two runs.
Jace J, Eli L and Trainor J each collected two hits for Mims. Trainor finished 2-for-3 with a game-high three RBIs to lead the offensive attack.
Merritt Island Little League 11, Indian River City Little League 1
On Field 2, Merritt Island Little League’s offense stayed hot in an 11-1 victory over Indian River City Little League.
Merritt Island jumped out early in the first inning as Callaghan S and Dennis A each delivered RBI singles, Ryker L added an RBI double, and two more runs scored on an error for a quick 5-0 lead.
The All-Stars added five more runs in the second inning on five hits. Sammy D singled home a run, two runs crossed on a passed ball, and Dennis A capped the rally with a two-run double.
Jacob F drove in another run with a groundout in the third inning to extend the lead to 11-0.
Merritt Island finished with 10 hits in the game. Indian River City’s offense was limited to hits by Caiden O and Blake B, with Blake driving in the team’s lone run.
Kieran C earned the victory for Merritt Island after throwing 3 2/3 hitless innings, striking out six without issuing a walk. Jacob F worked in relief to finish the game.
Brabley G took the loss for Indian River City, allowing 11 runs—three earned—on 10 hits over three innings while striking out two and walking one.
