BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a tropical wave expected to emerge off the west coast of Africa on Monday, with gradual development possible over the Atlantic Ocean this week.

An area of low pressure could form in association with the wave during the early part of the week.

Environmental conditions are forecast to become marginally favorable for development, and a tropical depression could form by the middle to latter portions of the week.

The system is expected to move generally westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical Atlantic.

The National Hurricane Center gives the system a near-zero-percent chance of formation during the next 48 hours and a 50-percent chance of development during the next seven days.
