BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Melbourne Central Catholic head football coach Nate Hooks was given a multi-game suspension after the Florida High School Athletic Association said he violated the policy 37.1.1 against improperly contacting players, according to a MCC spokesperson Tessie Wilkie.

In addition, MCC received an unspecified fine.

According to FHSAA policy 37.1.1, “No school employee, athletic department staff member, representative of the school’s athletic interests or third parties, such as an independent person, business or organization, may make contact, either in person or through any form of written or electronic communication or through any third party, with a student, or any member of the student’s family, in an effort to pressure, urge or entice the student to attend a different school for the purpose of participating in interscholastic athletics.”

Hooks took over as MCC head coach this season and will coach at practice during his suspension, while staff assistants will handle in-game duties, according to a release issued by MCC.

“MCC’s assistant football coaches will guide the team on game days,” said the release. “The school has initiated the Association’s appeal process.”

Hooks has led the Hustlers to a 4-2 record this season. He spent last season as associate head coach and passing game coordinator for the state champion Cocoa Tigers.

Prior to his time at Cocoa, Hooks was the longest-tenured head coach in Brevard County after spending eight seasons with Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, where he posted an overall record of 48-36 and led the program to their first-ever playoff win.

Hooks is the third head coach at MCC since 2018.
