TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Florida State University police responded to an active incident on campus Thursday following reports of a possible shooter, according to a statement released by the university on social media.
The university urged individuals on campus to shelter in place, describing the situation as an “active scene” and stating that efforts were underway to bring it under control.
A senior official with Florida law enforcement told Fox News that at least one person was taken into custody. However, it has not been confirmed whether the individual was directly involved in the shooting.
Federal authorities have also responded to the scene. The FBI’s Jacksonville field office and its Tallahassee resident agency confirmed their presence at FSU.
Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a statement expressing concern and support for those affected.
“The FBI is on the scene at Florida State and we are in communication with agents on the ground. Our priority is the safety of everyone involved. We will keep updating as we learn more. Praying for all,” Bondi wrote.
FBI Director Dan Bongino also acknowledged the bureau’s involvement, stating on X that he was en route back to Washington, D.C. but receiving updates.
“The FBI is on the scene at FSU. I am en route back to DC from our LA office but we are getting updates on the situation on the plane. We will update you as we learn more,” Bongino wrote.
