SPACE COAST DAILY TV: Florida Gov. Rick Scott visited Melbourne Wednesday afternoon to campaign for the upcoming U.S. Senate General Election in November. Scott appeared at Sorensen Moving and Storage, located at 950 W. Eau Gallie Boulevard. The 2018 Primary Election was held on Tuesday as Scott defeated Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente and will take on incumbent U.S. Senator Bill Nelson in the General Election.
BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Governor Rick Scott hosted a “Let’s Get to Work” rally on Wednesday at Sorensen Moving & Storage in Melbourne to highlight the economic turnaround in Florida and the Space Coast over the past seven and a half years.
Under Governor Scott’s leadership, nearly 25,000 new jobs have been created on Florida’s Space Coast and the unemployment rate has dropped from 11.4 percent in December 2010 to 3.6 percent in July 2018.
Governor Rick Scott said, “Bill Nelson had the chance to protect the Space Coast from the economic hardship of Obama’s NASA cuts, but when he failed to do his job, families and businesses paid the price.
“Thankfully, Florida doesn’t wait for career politicians in Washington to take action. We’ve spent the past seven and a half years working to revitalize Florida’s Space Coast so families could get back to work and businesses could thrive, and the turnaround of Florida’s Space Coast is further proof that it’s possible to cut taxes and create jobs even when Washington politicians fail.
“I was proud to join Space Coast families and job creators to recognize that success at our ‘Let’s Get to Work’ rally today, and I look forward to continuing to fight for the Space Coast and all of Florida as a member of the U.S. Senate.”
Scott Sorensen, President & CEO, Sorensen Moving and Storage, said, “When the Space Coast, like all of Florida, was facing an extremely difficult business climate in 2008, Washington politicians hurt our communities even more by slashing NASA’s budget and weakening our space industry.
“It was a double whammy for Space Coast families and Washington’s failure forced many business owners like me to work non-stop and make tough choices just to get by. Thankfully, our business was able to recover thanks to Florida’s remarkable economic turnaround under the leadership of Governor Rick Scott. Governor Scott’s work to cut taxes, reduce regulation and attract major job creators has helped get the Space Coast back on the map and we look forward to Governor Scott taking this success story to Washington.”
