BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Space Coast Area Transit will join with other public transportation systems nationwide June 21 to participate in the 7th annual National Dump the Pump Day.

Space Coast Area Transit’s website, RideSCAT.com, is currently featuring a printable coupon on its home page that will allow passengers to ride the bus for free on Dump the Pump Day.

Sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, the one-day event encourages people to try riding public transportation and save money, instead of driving a car.

Since its conception in June 2006, when gas prices were $3 per gallon, this national day emphasizes public transportation is a great travel option that also helps people save money.

“With the high price of gasoline, saving money is on everyone’s minds,” said Jim Liesenfelt, director of Space Coast Area Transit. “Public transportation is the quickest way to beat high gas prices, and Dump the Pump Day is an excellent opportunity for our residents to try transit for free.”

According to the latest APTA Transit Savings Report, individuals in a two-person household can save an average of more than $10,000 annually by downsizing to one car.
