The first round of the tournament was played Friday after being postponed by rain Thursday.

Horschel, 25, who went on to star at the University of Florida after graduating from Bayside, fired a 63 Friday to grab a one-stroke lead.

At nine under par, Horschel is in the hunt to record his first PGA Tour victory.

He’s played 10 times in PGA tournaments this year and has one top-25 finish, so maybe this will be his breakout event on the tour.

Horschel, who was a four-time All-American while competing for the Gators, turned professional in 2009 and obtained his PGA Tour card in 2010.

A wrist injury limited his playing time on the tour until this year.
