BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard Community College volleyball team had its first Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference victory of the season in its grasp on Tuesday, but let it slip away.

BCC dropped a five-set match to visiting Palm Beach State on the Titusville Campus, falling to 0-5 in the conference and 3-13 after leading two sets to none. The final tally read 20-25, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23, 15-12 in favor of Palm Beach.

Palm Beach improved to 2-3 in conference and 5-14 overall. The Panthers took command in the third set and never let BCC back into the match it dominated in the first two sets.

The result did not sit well with BCC assistant coach Pete Klonowski.

“If we are going to lose we shouldn’t lose because of a lack of effort and that’s why we lost tonight,” Klonowski said. “We played great for two sets and then stopped.

“We are capable of playing at a very, very high level. When we lose that competitiveness and the mental focus we really make some foolish decisions with the ball. We give up way too many easy points for the other team.”

Next up for BCC is a 7 p.m. match Thursday against conference foe Broward College on the Titusville Campus. Admission to the match is free.
