Free Activities Abundant At Kids Wetland Festival

BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – Something fascinating for children is about to roll out Saturday morning in Viera.  

Children will learn about the value of wetlands while enjoying hands-on activities at the first Kids Wetland Festival on Saturday in Viera. (Shutterstock image)

The first Kid’s Wetland Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, also known as the Viera Wetland, 10000 West Wickham Road.

Children will learn about the value of wetlands while enjoying hands-on activities.

Activities offered at thee event include archeology, invasive species, butterfly host plants, feeding habits of birds, snakes, turtles and alligators, Japanese fish printing (Gyotaku), a pirate treasure hunt, boat building and a special tour of the South Central Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Most activities are a half-hour in duration.

The free event is sponsored by the Brevard County Natural Resources Management Office, Utility Services Department and the Friends of Viera Wetlands.

Music will entertain attendees as they progress through the activity stations and food will be available for purchase.
