BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A late afternoon auto accident in Melbourne claimed the life of two people from Palm Bay on Saturday.

Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said William Tepper of Palm Bay, 80, was driving north in a 2004 Toyota Highlander on Riverside Drive near Eau Gallie Boulevard about 5:12 p.m. Saturday with a passenger, Sandra Hart of Palm Bay, 71.

Montes said for an unknown reason, Tepper failed to negotiate a large sweeping right curve.

The vehicle left the roadway and glanced off a tree on the west shoulder, crossed over to the east side of the roadway and struck a concrete pole.

Montes said it appears that Tepper may have had a medical condition which may have contributed to the crash.

Both Tepper and Hart were killed in the accident.

The crash remains under investigation, Montes said.
