Officers arrested Steven A. Mains of 2498 Ralph Avenue in Palm Bay, 35, about 4:45 p.m. Wednesday following an investigation, according to Melbourne Police Department Public Information Officer Sgt. Sheridan Shelley.

An arrest affidavit for Mains reveals Mains “intentionally, willfully and unlawfully committed the crime of video voyeurism in violation of Florida statutes” in Melbourne by secretly making audio and video recordings of his estranged wife while she was undressed in a place where she had a reasonable expectation of privacy.

Mains has been charged with two misdemeanor counts of sex offenses of video voyeurism and two third degree felony counts of eavesdropping illegal interception of communication.

The recordings are reported to have been made by Mains on Dec. 5.

Police have obtained video evidence of the crimes, Shelley said.

Palm Bay Public Information officer Yvonne Martinez said Palm Bay Police Department detectives also are investigating Mains for secretly videotaping the adult female victim’s 12-year-old daughter while she was undressed at a residence in Palm Bay and more charges may be pending.

Mains is in the Brevard County Jail and will be arraigned on the charges today.
