EFSC Men’s Soccer Qualifies For Postseason

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Eastern Florida State College’s men’s soccer team defeated Broward College 3-1 on Wednesday to reach two milestones for a first-year program.
The Titans qualified for the NJCAA Division I postseason and guaranteed themselves a winning season.
The victory on Broward’s new field in Pembroke Pines was the sixth straight for Eastern Florida and improved its record to 7-1 with four regular-season games remaining.
“We are really excited to be moving on to the postseason and to challenge ourselves against the best teams in the nation,” said Eastern Florida head coach Oliver Twelvetrees.
The Titans qualified for the postseason by virtue of beating Florida College System Activities Association/NJCAA Region 8 foe Broward twice, the first victory being a 3-0 decision in Melbourne on Sept. 14.
Who the Titans will play in the first round of the postseason, when and where, has not been determined.

What is important is they qualified on the strength of two goals from leading scorer Jordan Muir, the first in the 38th minute on assists from Farias Juarez and Christian Grajeda and the second in the 85th minute on assists from Justin Gavin and Keenan King for the final margin. Juarez scored Eastern Florida’s second goal in the 43rd minute on an assist from Grajeda. Broward scored in the 83rd minute.Jorge Madera recorded two saves in goal for Eastern Florida as the Titans outshot Broward 25-3. “It was a quality performance,” Twelvetrees said.
“We created a lot of opportunities. We should have put the game away a lot earlier.”
A HARD MATCH BUT PLAYED WELL
The outcome pleased Muir as well. “It was a hard game, I thought we played well,” he said.
“We passed, we moved, we did what we are good at. Also we were down to 10 men (due to a late-game red card) but we fought well. Overall it was a nifty performance.
As for qualifying for the postseason: “I think it was great for a first-year project,” Muir said.
“We seem to be doing so well, we’re on a good win streak now.”
Next up for the Titans is a rematch with Darton College at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 on the Melbourne Campus. The Titans then upset nationally second-ranked Darton 4-3 on the Cavaliers home field on Sept. 6.
