BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA — Firefighters saved a home from destruction after a fire that started in the bedroom caused an estimated $20,000 in damage.

The fire was reported AT 11:58 A.M. when the victim, who was home alone at the time, saw smoke in the hallways coming from his bedroom. The home is located at 1098 Hampshire Avenue NE. When firefighters arrived the fire had spread from the bedroom to the hallways and into the living room. Once the fire was extinguished Fire Marshal Mike Couture and Assistant Fire Marshal Ron Bailey began to investigate the cause and origin of the fire. The investigation revealed the fire started in the bedroom from improperly discarded smoking materials left on the bed. The fire is determined to be accidental.  There were no injuries.  The home is valued at approximately $80,000. The smoke alarms in the home were not working.
