MELBOURNE • BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The Florida Tech Panthers finished up 2013 with a pair of victories in the CarMax holiday Tournament.

The squad will begin 2014 Saturday with a Sunshine State Conference road matchup against the Lions of Saint Leo on Saturday.

The Panthers (9-4, 0-1 SCC) are looking to get into the SSC win column Saturday against the Lions. The Panthers fell to Lynn back on Dec. 7 to open conference play.

The squad comes into Saturday led by junior Kayk Wilson who ranks second in the SSC averaging 18.3 points per game. Senior Ida Gustafsson is also averaging double figures for the Panthers at 10.2 points per game.

The Panthers and Lions split two games last season with each team winning on the others’ home floor. The Panthers picked up a 74-64 victory at the Marion Bowman Center last season.

THE LIONS ENTER SATURDAY’S CONTEST

The Lions (10-1, 1-0 SSC) enter Saturday’s contest after a cross-continental journey took them to Anchorage, Alaska. The Lions took part in the AT&T Hoops Classic splitting two games.

Saint Leo fell to Alaska Anchorage in their last game, which was its’ first loss of the season.

Back on Dec. 7, the Lions opened SSC play by defeating No. 16 Rollins in Winter Park. Saint Leo is led by Teresa Manigrasso who is scoring 17 points per game for the Lions.

Chelsea Williams is also scoring in double figures at 15.9 points per contest.

Nikki Jessee is in her third season at the helm of the Lions’ program, and has her team just four wins away from matching their total from last season.

Tip-off Saturday is set for 2 p.m. ET. with a live audio broadcast beginning at 1:45 p.m. Live stats will also be available on FloridaTechSports.com courtesy of Saint Leo. The Panthers return home Jan. 8 when they host the Tars of Rollins inside the Clemente Center.
