BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOUNRE, FLORIDA – Edward John Webster, 71, of Melbourne was killed Saturday morning when he was struck at Sherwood Boulevard and King Richard Road by a car driven by Sylvia Inez Sosa, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

Sosa, 26, driving a 1994 Buick Century 4-door, was traveling southbound on Sherwood Boulevard, and approaching King Richard Road.

At the same time, Webster was operating a mobility chair traveling southbound in the bicycle/pedestrian lane on Sherwood Boulevard just north of King Richard Road.

According to the Melbourne Police Department, Sosa failed to maintain her lane, crossing over the white bicycle/pedestrian lane line. The front-right of Sosa’s Buick struck the rear of the mobility chair, and the back of Webster operating it.

Webster was taken by ambulance to Wuesthoff Hospital, where the he was pronounced dead at 6:57 a.m.

This case is currently under investigation.
