BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services provides an update on the abandoned puppy found tied up last week to a stop sign at I-95 and Cheney Highway in Titusville.

Below is a release from BCSO Animal Services:

Upon initial examination, it was discovered that ‘PD’ had an obvious injury to his right hind leg.

Radiographs confirmed our Veterinarians diagnosis that PD had suffered a severe fracture to the leg.

Do to the severity of the fracture, combined with the fact that it had been untreated for at least several weeks, the decision was made to amputate PD’s right leg in order to provide him with a better quality of life.

His leg was not able to bare functional weight, and was a source of chronic pain. Earlier today, our Veterinarian, Dr. Robert Edwards, performed the amputation.

We are very happy to report that ‘PD’ came through the surgery with no complications and is resting comfortably.

He will be monitored here at the shelter for a few days, after which we have arranged for a foster home with an experienced volunteer while he recovers.

Once he recovers, PD will be available for adoption into what we hope will be his new forever home!

Historically dogs with 3 legs adjust very quickly, PD has proven to be a survivor and we expect he will go on to live a healthy and normal life.
