Florida Tech Women’s Golf Earns No. 22 in Women’s Golf Coaches Association GPA Ranking

Florida Tech is one of 26 NCAA Division II teams recognized for its academic success

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Women’s Golf Coaches Association announced its 2017-18 WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA winners on Wednesday, and Florida Tech is one of 26 NCAA Division II teams recognized for its academic success.

The women’s golf team produced a cumulative team GPA of 3.600 during the 2017-18 academic year, which ranks 22nd nationally (out of 185 universities). This marks the highest collective average team GPA in program history and it’s the first time the Panthers were listed in the Top-25 ranking.

Joining FIT from the Sunshine State Conference was Lynn who ranked third overall with a 3.867 team GPA.

The University of Nebraska Omaha women’s golf team has been named the recipient of the 2017-18 WGCA All-Scholar Team GPA Award. The award recognizes the women’s collegiate golf program with the highest team GPA which includes all of the team’s student-athletes for the 2017-18 season. Omaha’s six team members had an average GPA of 3.949.

Leading Division II was Lindenwood University, as the team’s eight members averaged a 3.886 GPA, while Ithaca College led Division III with a 3.801 average GPA.

Earlier this month Megan Dennis, Lucy Eaton, Hailey Ko, Paola Ortiz and Lauren Watson all earned Division II All-America Scholar honors by the WGCA. Eaton and Ko received the award for the second year in a row.

The Women’s Golf Coaches Association, founded in 1983, is a non-profit organization representing women’s collegiate golf coaches. The WGCA was formed to encourage the playing of college golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition.

Today, the WGCA represents over 600 coaches throughout the U.S. and is dedicated to educating, promoting and recognizing both its members and the student-athletes they represent.
