Motorcyclist Killed in Cocoa Crash Wednesday Morning, All U.S. 1 Lanes Now Open

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – A motorcyclist was killed in a crash Wednesday morning on U.S. 1 southbound near Highland Ave., according to the Cocoa Police Department. 

The crash, which happened at just after 9 a.m., shut down both directions of U.S. 1.

“Traffic homicide investigators responded to a fatal crash Wednesday morning involving a motorcycle and another vehicle in the area of U.S. 1 and Highland Drive,” said Cocoa Police Public Information Officer Yvonne Martinez.

“The driver of the motorcycle was deceased on scene.”

Martinez said the driver of the other vehicle was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after fire-rescue crews had to extricate him from the vehicle.

“Officers are still attempting to verify the identities of those involved and contact family members,” said Martinez.

“According to witnesses, the motorcycle was traveling southbound on U.S. 1 at a high rate of speed. The driver of a vehicle was attempting to cross U.S. 1 from West Highland Drive when he was hit by the southbound motorcycle.”

Cocoa police are conducting the investigation.
