Adm. Jones noted Port Canaveral is on cutting edge of leading industry trends and innovations

Retired U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral, and current Canaveral Port Authority Vice Chairman, Wayne Justice, above, was on hand to introduce guest speaker U.S. Coast Guard Seventh District Commander Rear Admiral Eric Jones during the recent Propeller Club of Port Canaveral February Luncheon held at Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill.

BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL FLORIDA – Retired U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral, and current Canaveral Port Authority Vice Chairman, Wayne Justice was on hand to introduce guest speaker U.S. Coast Guard Seventh District Commander Rear Admiral Eric Jones during the recent Propeller Club of Port Canaveral February Luncheon held at Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill.

During the introduction, Justice talked about how Jones had previously served under his command in the Coast Guard’s budget office in Washington, D.C. when the 9/11 attack occurred in 2001, and was tasked with funding the creation and build-up of post-9/11 Coast Guard enhanced security operations.

During his address to the Propeller Club, Jones highlighted some of the recent operations of the Seventh District including Hurricane Dorian response and rescue and salvage efforts following the capsizing of the M/V Golden Ray in St. Simon’s Sound, Georgia.

Jones also discussed the main points of the Coast Guard’s Maritime Commerce Strategic Outlook and how they directly intersect with local operations at Port Canaveral and throughout the district.

During his address to the Propeller Club, Adm. Eric Jones highlighted some of the recent operations of the Seventh District including Hurricane Dorian response and rescue and salvage efforts following the capsizing of the M/V Golden Ray in St. Simon’s Sound, Georgia.

The three areas covered were facilitating maritime commerce and travel on secure waterways, modernizing aids to navigation and mariner information systems and transforming workforce capacity and partnerships.

He noted that Port Canaveral is on the cutting edge of some of the leading industry trends and innovations such as LNG fueled cruise ships and maritime support for space flight operations.

Jones highlighted the strong local industry partnerships between the Canaveral Port Authority, Port Canaveral stakeholders and the Coast Guard’s Sector Jacksonville which includes Port Canaveral.

The Propeller Club of Port Canaveral is the local chapter of the International Propeller Club of the United States, a business network dedicated to the promotion of the maritime industry, commerce, and global trade.

The club holds monthly luncheons and special events that bring together the port community for informative speaker presentations, networking, and fun social events.

The club gives back to the community by supporting the Rockledge High School HELM Maritime Studies Program and support for the Canaveral Port Ministry, Cape Canaveral Lighthouse Foundation, Keep Brevard Beautiful Clean Ups, the Port Canaveral Maritime Day and July Fireworks events, scholarships for maritime students, and the Sea Cadets.
