Children’s Hunger Project Looks For Volunteers For Food Package and Book Pick-Up on Friday

Food distribution volunteers are needed at Atlantis, Cape View and Coquina Elementary

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Children’s Hunger Project is partnering with Brevard Public Schools to bridge the weekend food gap and continuing to feed children by providing our weekend food packets at three Brevard Public Schools specified locations.
In addition, United Way will be providing books to promote summer literacy.
The Children’s Hunger Project will be distributing age-appropriate books along with their weekend food packets.
They are asking for volunteers, at least eight years old with an adult, to help feed hungry Brevard children.
Food distribution volunteers are needed at Atlantis, Cape View and Coquina Elementary.
Gloves will be provided, The Children’s Hunger Project asks you to bring your own face-covering/mask and hand sanitizer.

SCHEDULE:
FRIDAY, AUGUST 21, 2020 commitment of 9 a.m. -12:30 p.m:
If you are picking up food: you will need space in your vehicle to hold 10 boxes containing 10 food packages in each box. If you sign up for two volunteer spots, you will need to fit 20 boxes in your vehicle.
If you are picking up books: you will need space in your vehicle to hold 5-10 small to medium-sized bags or boxes of books (hardbound and paperback).
9 a.m. – 10 a.m. – Pick up boxes of our food packages and/or boxes of books from outside our office, 1855 W King Street, Cocoa.
10:15 a.m. – Arrive at your designated school (that you sign up for below) (It is recommended that you bring a folding table to distribute from – no access to school – food distribution in the school parking lot).
10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (may end sooner if run out of food packages) – Food distributor volunteers and book distributor volunteers will need to work together to: distribute food packages by placing one food package per child (or however many they request) in the car trunk, and distributing one age-appropriate book for each child.
Volunteers will need to ask the ages of the children to make sure the correct books are chosen and distributed.
