Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Issues Update for Deputy-Involved Shooting in Cocoa Last Friday

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has provided updated information about the deputy-involved shooting incident that occurred in the city of Cocoa last Friday morning.
According to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Tod Goodyear, the incident occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. in the area of Stetson Drive and Ivy Drive in Cocoa.
“Deputies were investigating an earlier incident in which a vehicle fled from an attempted traffic stop at U.S. 1 Highway and State Road 528,” said Goodyear.
Goodyear said the vehicle was observed in the area of Stetson Drive and Ivy Drive in Cocoa, where deputies attempted to make contact with the occupants. At that time a deputy-involved shooting incident occurred.
“Two males were transported from the scene to local hospitals where they were later pronounced deceased,” said Goodyear.
The decedents are identified as 18-year-old Sincere Pierce and 16-year-old Anthony Crooms, both of Cocoa.
The deputy involved in the incident is not being identified at this time.
“As is customary in these types of investigations, the deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation,” said Goodyear.
The investigation is being conducted by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
