BREVARD COUNTY • PALM BAY, FLORIDA – Throughout Black History Month in February, the Palm Bay Police Department will highlight members of their agency:

Today, we introduce Dorothy Bates to be our monthly VCOP Spotlight.

If your daughter is a detective for the Palm Bay Police Department and she encourages you to become a VCOP, you would probably do just what Dorothy did and join up.

She has faithfully manned the front desk for seven years. She loves talking with people and meeting their needs which is exactly what the job requires as she’s often the first person someone speaks with when they come to the station.

Her skills gained working in Agency Administration in the Communications and Advertising Division of an insurance company in Michigan for 30 years helped prepare her for this position.

Born in Louisiana, her family now includes four children and six grandchildren. When she has some free moments she loves to eat out, read, serve in her church, and shop.

If you would like to become a VCOP like Dorothy, send an email to VCOP@palmbayflorida.org or call 321-953-8987.
