BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Chief Evander Collier held a swearing-in ceremony recently for the latest officers to join the department, including Michael Fitzgerald, Kuanza Henderson and Tyler Douglass.

“We wish them well in their training and we thank them for accepting the oath to protect and serve,” said Chief Collier.

The Cocoa Police Department is an accredited law enforcement agency through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation since 2006.

The accreditation renewal process occurs every three years with a rigorous review. The Cocoa Police Department has successfully maintained this accredited status through each of these reviews (four to date). The next renewal process will be in 2021.

An accreditation program has long been recognized as a means of maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. Accreditation is the certification by an independent reviewing authority that an entity has met specific requirements and prescribed standards.

As a result of the high professional standards demanded of an accredited law enforcement agency, and a decades-long commitment to a community policing philosophy, the Cocoa Police Department is a model agency for the nation.
