Disney Wish Cruise Ship Now Afloat at Shipyard in Germany, Maiden Voyage Set July 14 from Port Canaveral

Disney's newest ship has been under construction for 10 months

PAPENBURG, GERMANY – Disney Wish, Disney Cruise Line’s newest cruise ship that will make its maiden voyage on July 14 from Port Canaveral, set sail for the first time on Feb. 11 from the Meyer Werft shipyard pier in Papenburg, Germany.

Disney Wish is the first of three new Disney Cruise Line ships set to be built by 2025.

Disney’s newest ship, which has been under construction for 10 months, was celebrated with fireworks, an orchestra and Captain Minnie Mouse.

It took about five hours and 29 million gallons of water from the Ems River to flood the pier, causing the cruise ship to sail with up to three feet of clearance on each side.

Each new Disney ship will run on LNG and will weigh approximately 144,000 gross tons.

Among the attractions that stand out is the iconic sculpture of Rapunzel and her friend Pascal.

In addition, one of three iconic red fireplaces will house a two-story suite, the first of its kind. It will have approximately 2,000 square feet of double-height ocean views.

On all Disney Cruise Line ships, the exterior design is inspired by classic ocean liners and accented with iconic Mickey Mouse colors and features artwork on the bow of the ship depicting Captain Minnie Mouse.

Disney Wish will sail three- and four-night itineraries to Nassau, the Bahamas and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, from Port Canaveral in Brevard County.
