BREVARD COUNTY • SUNTREE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College men’s golf team finished in second place at the Titan Winter Invitational Tuesday at Suntree Country Club.

The Titans shot a final round 302 on the Classic Course to place runner-up to Keiser University who shot a 294 and finished the tournament with an 862. It is the third straight year Keiser has won the Titan Winter Invitational as they shot under par as a team in two of the three rounds.

Eastern Florida State College’s Robert Greninger finished the tournament tied for third, shooting 214 for the tournament.

“He has been steady, he has been working hard. I know he is disappointed with today’s round, third place and disappointed, you can tell he is doing all the right things to get better,” Eastern Florida State College men’s golf coach Jamie Howell said.

“We had a chance, we just didn’t really play well today. The golf course was set up challenging today and that is good for them to see know and learn to adjust to it.”

Sophomore Matt Gauntlett had his best round of the tournament in the final round, shooting a 2-under 70 to finish the tournament tied for sixth overall. Teammate Drew Lanier was also tied for sixth after a final round of 77.

“A nice bounce-back round from Matt Gauntlett but you knew it was just a matter of time for him. We just didn’t have enough balance, need a bit more from John, Drew and Ryan,” Howell said.

The White team had a solid day as well as Brandon Boncore shot a 73 in the final round and finished tied for eighth with Murphy Allard who finished with a 75. Noah Campbell shot a 74 to finish tied for 14th.

“We are deep this year and this is what happens. We qualify and the top five make the first team and then we have a second unit and those guys played well and it showed,” Howell said.

“I try to make my qualifying hard, the more competitive we are, the better we are. The most difficult thing we do should be qualifying. Once they get here, it should feel like a relief.”

The Titans will play in the Coastal Alabama Spring Invitational on Feb. 14 and 15.
