Florida Tech Panthers Men’s Soccer Improve to 2-0 After Shutting-Out Wingate University

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech Panthers soccer team defeated Wingate University 2-0 at Panthers Stadium in Melbourne.

Fabio Amaral got the Panthers on the board early in the game off a penalty kick after the Bulldogs were called for a foul in the box in the 15th minute.

Florida Tech had another scoring opportunity at 20′ when a cross by Nokkvi Nokkvason landed at the boot of Hugo Catherine right in front of the net but Wingate’s goalkeeper, Aleska Janjic, was quick to save.

Looking to tie it up WU was in a great position in the 28′ but as the ball left the foot of Niclas Wittur, Mikkel Kvinnesland stepped in front for the block keeping the Panthers in the lead.

WU had another scoring opportunity after being awarded a free kick at 36′. The ball bounced around in the box until a Bulldog headed it over the net.

The Panthers controlled the momentum in the second half outshooting the Bulldogs, 5-1.

With 12 minutes to go Joeran Osland extended Tech’s lead with a lob over the goalkeeper’s head off a deep pass from Amaral.

Tech’s strong play on both fronts helped them outshoot the Bulldogs 6-10 and finished with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Three Panthers tallied two shots on goal.

Ten cautions were given out with each team receiving five.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

■ Florida Tech is now 2-2 all-time against Wingate

■ Amaral’s goal marks the second year he has recorded his first goal of the season against Wingate.

■ Amaral’s goal was the third of his career.

■ Osland recorded his first career goal with the Panthers
