BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College softball team swept South Florida State College in a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Titan Softball Complex.

The Titans improved to 10-12 on the season with the 6-4 and 5-3 victories.

In Game 1, each team scored in the first inning but both pitchers got out of jams with starter Trinity Howard striking out Lexi Witz with the bases loaded.

It began a run of 13 straight outs recorded by the sophomore. The Titans would take a 2-1 lead in the third inning as Sam Clark singled and scored on Faith Campos’ single.

Up 2-1, the Titans broke the game open with a big two-out rally. Clark started it with a single, then Boo Swoyer singled and Campos once again delivered an RBI single. Ava Bassani made it 4-1 with an RBI single and with two on and two out, Marisa Shoudt ripped a two-run double.

Up 6-1, South Florida State College would get things going in the top of the sixth as Kaedyn Holcomb reached on an infield single, then Anna Burrows was hit by a pitch.

Taylor McFann hit a full-count pitch into the gap for a triple scoring two runs.

The lead would be cut to 6-4 as Mandy Hedetniemi-Taylor came in and gave up an RBI single by Ashton Lewis. But Hedetniemi-Taylor would strike out the next three hitters to keep the 6-4 lead.

She would finish the game and pick up her second save of the season. Clark finished 4-for-4, scoring twice in the game while Rachel Lamoureaux had three hits in the win.

In Game 2, Kat Wisor picked up her first win of the season, allowing three runs in the complete game.

Meanwhile, the Titans were running early as Lamoureaux walked and scored from first on a throwing error as Howard went all the way to third base on the overthrow to first.

Campos was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and then Bassani had a sacrifice fly to give the Titans the lead, 3-2.

In the fourth inning, Trinity Howard came up with Shoudt, Makenzie Fore, and Lamoureaux on base.

The center fielder took a full-count pitch and served it into the outfield for a two-run single and gave the Titans a 5-2 lead.

It was all Wisor needed as she did not allow another run until the top of the seventh inning as Makayla Oster singled and advanced to second on an interference call. Oster would score on an Ashton Lewis double. But that is as close as the Panthers would get.

Eastern Florida State College has now won three in a row and six of the past seven.

They will travel to the CMI Invitational, playing Pensacola State College at 1:15 p.m. and then the State College of Florida, Manatee at 3:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Boombah Sports Complex in Sanford.
