BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA –  Cocoa High School math and AP calculus teacher Pamela Brockmeyer was honored as the Brevard Public Schools Teacher of the Year during the recent annual ABC “Applauding Brevard’s Champions” Awards Gala held at the Radisson at the Port.

She has taught at Cocoa High School for the past 24 years and has had a positive impact not only on her students but also on her fellow teachers and colleagues.

Brockmeyer said she is proud to represent Cocoa High and expressed her love for her school, her community, and her students said Cocoa High Principal Denise Stewart in her letter of recommendation, which can be seen here:

“It is with great pleasure that I write to recommend Pamela Brockmeyer as Brevard Public School’s 2023 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Brockmeyer was nominated by her peers as our Cocoa High Teacher of the Year and is valued as an experienced classroom teacher leader on our campus. She has devoted many years to the students, families, staff and community of Cocoa High School and would make an excellent representative for all Brevard Public Schools educators.

Mrs. Brockmeyer not only teaches our advanced math classes, such as AP Calculus and Algebra 2, she also serves as math department chair and BFT representative. In these teacher leader roles, she represents her fellow teachers with a positive spirit of collaboration between administration and staff. Her math team respects her experience as an instructor and regularly seeks out her assistance with implementing best practice institutional strategies, such as Kagan.

If you visit Mrs. Brockmeyer’s classroom, you will see students who are actively engaged in complex math and who welcome the cognitive struggle because of the way she designs her lessons. Each lesson utilizes engagement techniques that encourage students to learn content from multiple perspectives – kinesthetic, verbal, written, etc.

She regularly creates math games that help her students get excited about the challenge of rigorous coursework and encourages positive competition to help make learning fun in what could otherwise be very frustrating coursework for some.

Mrs. Brockmeyer further serves the students of Cocoa High as our Girl’s Golf coach and our school community as our Friday night football announcer. She devotes many of her personal hours to honing her instructional tool kit as a reader for AP, has attended Kagan summer institute, and has also assisted with our school improvement planning over the summer months.”

The other five Brevard Public Schools Teacher of the Year finalists this year include Devane Clark, Cambridge Elementary; Jennifer McFadden, Fairglen Elementary; Marybeth Scrivener, Indialantic Elementary; Kathryn Thorner, Madison Middle; and Ada Dixon, Palm Bay Magnet High.
